CM knows numbers of road transport people who fly their own aircraft but it was diverting, recently, to meet a sky-diver, Bob Nixon, who is on the area committee of NODA (National Owner Drivers' Association).
Bob did a couple of static drops when he served in the Royal Horse Guards but did not hanker to pursue the sport for several years after leaving the Forces.
For nearly five years as a member of Northumbria Parachute Club, at Sunderland airfield, Bob has gained experience with around 200 drops and reckons to be able to land on a handkerchief when conditions are good. He has his own collection of parachutes including a 28ft diameter, Americanmade "Para-Commander" dubbed "Black Widow".
