THE Continental express coach services of National Travel have proved so successful that it has been necessary to duplicate them from Cologne. The company announced this week that the London-Cologne leg of its Athens and Innsbruck services is now being served by an additional National Travel vehicle. The services are jointly worked with DTG of Frankfurt and L'Epervier of Brussels and are part of the Europabus network.
This year the services are scheduled to finish in September but the company says it is urgently examining the possibility of extending the season in future years. At the same time a close study is being made of the potential for other services from Britain. It is understood that among areas being considered are Spain and Portugal.
A survey of passengers on the pioneering LondonFrankfurt service in 1973 showed that, contrary to expectations, only a small minority of passengers were students, retired people or from other low-income groups. More detailed surveys of passengers are being made this year.
