GROWING competition from private cars, motorcycles and bicycles is blamed by Mr. R. P. Beddow, chairman of Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., for a drop of 8m. in passengers carried last year. At the company's annual meeting on Tuesday he said that although receipts for the year were a record, expenditure was also the highest ever.
The company had been able to continue many unremunerative services by using 12 one-man-operated buses which were supplied during the year. These had come up to expectations and 17 similar vehicles were to be delivered this year.
