• TIP has introduced tipper trailers into its rental fleet as the latest move in its strategy of exploiting niche markets (tankers and hanging-garment vans were added to its fleet last year).
"This type of equipment is ideally suited to the rental market," says TIP's UK managing director Sandy Anderson, as each unit represents a significant capital outlay but is often involved in seasonal work which means there can be long periods when it lies idle.
"Our ability to iron out the peaks and troughs for customers who can now save themselves a significant capital out lay while still meeting their contractual obligations in the most cost-effective way, will make tipper trailers a valuable addition to our fleet."
An initial consignment of 10 new tri-axle stepframe units has now been delivered and the first of them gone into service with Cardiff haulage and vehicle repair firm, Grange town Service Station. It will carry coal to local power stations and aggregate to steel works.
The new TIP tippers each have a load capacity of 55m3. They feature lift-up front axles, air suspension and are fitted with donkey engines.
