Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Austin Rover has denied rumours that it is about to fit Perkins' two-stage injection systems to the direct-injection two-litre diesel engines in its Maestro car-derived-vans.

Without acknowledging that the Maestro has any noise problems, the company says that the two-stage injection (already fitted to similar engines in Freight Rover Sherpa vans) has little appreciable effect in tests it has done. The cost of the twostage injection is about twice that of the conventional injection system and Austin Rover feels that the benefits are too small to be worthwhile.

The company has not ruled out the possibility of the twostage injection system being fitted to the turbocharged version of the two-litre Perkins Prima engine fitted in the Maestro cars that debuted at last year's Motor Show.
