Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Lifts for large and small

WORKSHOPS handling large and small vehicles can find it difficult to choose lifting equipment.

Sefac claims its lifts will handle almost every make and type of vehicle. The range extends from eight to 26 tonnes.

According to Sefac, the most popular is the four-column model offering a lifting capacity of 20 tonnes.

By supporting a vehicle on axle stands, the mobile columns may be removed and put to work elsewhere, thereby creating a saving.

Multi-purpose power washers

BLASTAIR'S BG5000 and BG7000 are high-velocity power washers which may also be used for foam and degreasant applications in engine cleaning.

They retail at £75 and £98 respectively.

The washers rely on water/chemical velocity,

rather than water pressure,

which virtually eliminates recoil and splashback.

The guns operate from 2.0 to 25hp compressors (or ring mains air) and mains water supply.

Valves in the pistol grip control water, air or chemical supply. This allows any combination for chemical application (neat or diluted), water washing and air drying.

Lorry drivers may use their air-brake supply for it when a conventional air supply is not at hand.

Battery charger

A PORTABLE Suzuki generator set with 12 and 24V dc output has been introduced by distributor Heron Power Products.

The SE500C generator is suitable for battery charging applications with its dual 12V — 150W and 24V — 300 W outputs.

The unit is powered by a 63.6cc four-stroke petrol engine and the housing containing the complete set is designed to reduce noise to only 58dB(A) at 7 m. Ignition is transistorised.

Battery charging current can be checked by monitoring the built in ammeter. An oil level warning system is fitted. Battery charging leads are supplied as a standard accessory.

Schort step to anti-syphon

THE SCHORT Anti-Syphon device eliminates locking petrol caps, and is extremely durable, efficient, and cheap to install and operate. it can be fitted in 30 seconds to most makes of

light van and costs £2 excluding vat.

The Anti-Syphon unit consists of a nylon-coated steel mesh which is held firmly inside the filling pipe by a strong electroplated steel spring clip. It is positioned by a simple bracket, which, when released during fitting, enables the clip to expand to, and securely grip, the sides of the pipe.

Petrol flow is not impaired, and the whole unit is petrolresistant.

Heat with used sump oil

A SPACE heater which uses spent sump oil has been introduced by Coombe Hill Engineering of Gloucester.

A flue outlet 5m (16.4ft) high needs to be provided for the Anderton 2 to enable it to convert between 0.74 to 2.27 litres (1.3 to 4 pints) of waste oil up to 14.5kW of smokeless heat for garages and workshops.

Tank, brackets, metal flue pipe and starting and cleaning kits cost £295 plus vat.

An optional extra-heat exchanger to plumb into central heating or hot water systems is also available from the makers. Coombe Hill Engineering, 4 Chancel Close, Eastern Avenue, Gloucester.

Compact reel for compressed air

A NEW portable, compact hose reel which supplies compressed air for driving air-powered cutting tools has been introduced by Dean Reels.

The Mk 42 reel is intended for rescue vehicles. One end of the hose is connected to a compressor or compressed air bottle, and the reel is run out to where the cutting tool is needed, the latter being connected to a short length of hose which does not turn with the drum.

Already approved by the London Fire Brigade, the hose is also suitable for use by airport rescue services, the police or any application where pneumatic tools need to be used in the field, and where the presence of spilt fuel or other combustible products precludes the use of electric tools.

Designed for operation at up to 100psi, the compact all-steel reel is approximately 304mm (12in) and carries 15.2m (50ft) of singie line 6.2mm l3/4in) bore hose. To save space, the standard model does not have an end-mounted rewind handle, the hose being rewound from the rim, although a handle or spring retraction can be fitted. A longer version of the same reel, designated Mk 90, can carry 45.7m (150ft) of hose. Dean Reels, Colt Hill Works, London Road, Odiham, Hampshire R025 1AN.
