Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GENERAL HAULAGE is not an easy service to sell and few small or medium-sized fleet operators employ a sales force. The proprietor himself is the sales manager, salesman and sales clerk; and we know of drivers who earn bonuses on any new business they introduce. But the best efforts of operator, driver or salesman can so easily be wasted if the vehicle is not attractive and presentable.

A well-kept vehicle with the name of the company artistically written on it is a business card on wheels, a mobile advertisement which presents an image of the company. For the past three years we have looked at some of the best examples of livery in all classes of vehicles, and we know that there are many more excellent outfits tucked away in fleets around Britain.

In Class G of our livery competition we give generalhaulage operators the opportunity to show their colours and win prestige and esteem. As always the rules are simple, the entry cost is small, and the rewards can be great. Here is all you have to do: • Entries must be between 7.5 tons to 1 6 tons carrying capacity.

• Send us four 35mm colour transparencies of the entry, showing front, rear and both sides of the vehicle.

• Enclose a £5 entry fee. • Send us details of your entry on the official entry form on this page.

The closing date for entry is January 19.

The competition will De judged in January by a panel consisting entirely of graphic designers. They will comment on all entries and if requested will assist operators to improve their image.

The winners will be announced on March 8 at an award presentation in London when they will receive a distinctive CM silver salver.

Liveries need not be ornate or expensive to win the award.
