Motor traffic on roads in Great Britain in the second quarter 1978 was three per cent up on the corresponding period of 19 according to provisional figures issued by the Department Transport.

The figures, expressed in vehicle-kilometres, reveal that taxi and light van traffic was three per cent up on the sec( quarter of 1977, while goods vehicle traffic increased by five a half per cent. Bus and coach traffic declined by one per cen These figures for the second quarter of 1978 follow the gene trend of the past few years.

Traffic on motorways rose by about 6 per cent over the ye compared with an increase of 41/2 per cent on trunk roads, 4 cent on principal roads and only 11/2 per cent on other roads.
