GUY

British Road Services has placed orders worth approximately £700,000 with Guy Motors Ltd. for 199 Guy Big J tractive units. Of these units 135 will be 9ft wheelbase models plated to operate (with semitrailer) at 24 tons g.t.w. They will have 8.19 litre 149 bhp six-cylinder diesel engines. Transmission will be via six-speed gearbox and single-speed rear axle. The other 64 hg J tractor units will have a wheelbase of 9ft 6in.. and operate at 30/32 tons g.t.w. They will be fitted with the 12.17-litre 192 bhp NHK 200 sixcylinder diesel engine, six-speed gearbox, and hub reduction rear axle. BRS already operates a very large fleet of Guys.

SMT

" The SMT Sales and Service Co. Ltd., has been appointed by W. J. Foster Ltd. (UK Consigners) as the first stockists and distributors throughout Scotland for the Zenith Swiss-built tachograph. Trained fitters can now instal the Zenith tachograph in Bedford and other commercial vehicles at any of the SMT depots in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Carl isle.

HARTRIDGE

Leslie Hartridge Ltd.. manufacturer of precision, test and service equipment for diesel engines, reports that it is currently exporting 68 per cent of its production.

ROOTES

The structure of the Rootes group has been re-organized to eliminate a considerable volume of unproductive legal, accounting, taxation and administrative work. A complex of 30 companies has now been consolidated into two operating companies—Rootes Motors Ltd. and one Scottish subsidiary. With minor exceptions, the whole of Rootes motor vehicle manufacturing and marketing activities in England will be undertaken by Rowels Motors Ltd., and all Scottish manufacturing activities by Rootes Pressings (Scotland) Ltd. (since January 1 named Rootes Motors Scotland Ltd.). The exceptions are company-owned dealerships operated by Robins and Day Ltd.
