Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Plans were approved by Bradford Transport Committee last week for the reorganization of bus depots in the city. The new policy means the building of a depot at Brownroyd for motorbuses and trolleybuses at an estimated cost of £290,000 and the closing of all but two of• the existing depots. Aid. H. Clayton, chairman of the committee, said this would mean a saving of more than £11,500 a year in maintenance costs.

The committee unanimously agreed to the new policy and will now go ahead with the original proposal to build on a site in City Road.

The proposed depot will house 135 motorbuses and 65 trolleybuses and room for expansion will be provided. Vehicles will enter from one side and leave by the other, passing through processes for mechanical washing, cleaning, greasing and fuelling.

The remainder of the fleet is to be housed at Thornbury (105 trolleybuses) and Ludlam Street (76 motorbuses) and the depots at Bowling, Bank Top, Bankfoot, Duckworth Lanem and Saltaire will be closed.

Aid. Clayton said that by streamlining to three depots the size of the bus fleet could be reduced by three per cent.

GLASGOW TRANSPORT INQUIRY: GLASGOW CORPORATION has approved a special committee to consider how public transport in the city can be improved. The committee will consider all types of transport.
