Good Deed Well Done

ON another page of this issue is a picture of a smart, green Commer van, which—as we reported—was last week pre sented to the WN.S. " on Wheels" service by Exeter sub-area of the Road Haulage Association. But behind the delightful ceremony when the Western Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson, handed over the keys of the van to the Mayor of Exeter, is quite a story of perseverance on behalf of the sub-area (who are far from being the wealthiest in the land).

I am sure nobody concerned with this fine deed will mind if I single out, in particular, Mr. A. B. Burgoyne (Budleigh Transport, Exeter). He thought of the idea and—despite several set-backs—just would not ,let up until he got • his van. Congratulations to Mr. Burgoyne and all his haulier friends.

Schoolboy Revolt

THE news that the Road Haulage Association is advising its express carriage group, from February 1, to discontinue carriage forward traffic, will cause the greatest embarrassment to schoolboys and will do much to stimulate ,revolt at their pocket money pause. When everything could be sent home ... old books, old clothes, laundry, empty tuck boxes, acquired

trophies and end of term luggage . . all C.F., sometimes filially known as O.O.M. (on the old man), it just enabled the P.M. to eke out but now... .

Hence, of course, the Schoolboys' Union and the go even slower threat.

One driver was overheard to say that he proposed the engine ticking over during the 10 minutes spent trip at an exposed out-of-town terminus. While this wise in the circumstances it must have had an at effect on fuel consumption returns.

NiGLY appropriate misquotation was made in a art the other day. After the only case' left in the irrived three-quarters of an hour after the start, Authority, whose name ought to be given, if he loke (but must be omitted in case he didn't), said: is the thief of time."
