Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A PROPOSAL that three children rAshould be reckoned as two' idUlts, irrespective of the number of adults carried in the conveyance of children' by contract carriage, has been turned down by the Ministry of Transport.

The ratio applies at present, provided that not more than six adults are carried in the same vehicle. Seeking improvement in the situation, the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association approached the Minister, who replied that urgent legislative matters made it impossible at this stage to. revise the P.S.V. (Equipment and Use) Regulations, 1941.

The proposed change would not, however, be consistent with a regulation aimed at ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.

SWITZERLAND MAKES VANS

UNDER the name of Mowag, a Swiss bodybuilding concern, Seitz and Ruf, S.A., Kreuzlingen, has started to make light commercial vehicles for the home market. Some 200 forwardcontrol light vans for the Swiss postal authorities are at present in production, 100 having already been delivered.

Engines, gearboxes and transmission units used in the Mowag vehicle are of American origin, but chassis, bodywork and even wheels are manufactured by the Kreuzlingen concern. An allpurpose design, in which the possibilities of interchangeable bodywork have been fully exploited, has been developed, but is still in the prototype stage, says "Revue Automobile"

CAMPAIGN AGAINST EASTERN SCHEME CONTINUES

A LTHOUGH the British Transport I—VCornmission has reduced by half the area originally proposed to be included in the eastern area scheme of nationalization, the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association has held meetings throughout the counties concerned. The Association points out that the reduction in the area is only a first stage

, and that further consideration is being given to other schemes for the remainder of the original zone.

The meetings we r c arranged to ensure that local authorities would continue their objections. whether they w ere included in the smallei area or not.
