THE Leeds sitting is to be continued on January 19th, on which day several excursion applications will be heard, with opposition from the railway companies, all the operators being independent concerns. Applications of a similar nature, including some for stage end express services, will be dealt with later during the week.

West Midland.

AN appeal has been made by the West

Midland Commissioners to. public service vehicle operators in the area, especially those desiring to run excursions and tours in 1932, to send in application forms as early as possible, so as to permit the grouping of applications according to starting points. This will permit those affecting the same starting points to be heard on the same date. Public sittings for this purpose will commence during the latter half of February, and applications are being published in the January issues of the Gazette of Notices and Proceedings.

Eastern.

AFTER the St. Albans sitting, the Commissioners are to hold a further sitting at Cambridge next week, when the majority of applications to be heard will be those of non-combine operators interested in all classes of service. The L.N.E.R. Co. and the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., are opposing a good many of them, it being noticeable that railway opposition generally is somewhat concentrated upon applications for excursions.

The Chelmsford-Charing Cross application of Messrs. Rose Brothers, Chelmsford (a modification of the existing licence), is opposed by the L.N.E.R., Hiliman, L.G.O.C., Green Line, Eastern National and Westeliffon-Sea undertakings.

South Wales.

THE latest gazette contains a brief list of applications to he heard at Cardiff to-morrow. Mr. W. Cliffe, in applying for a backing for an express service connecting London with Llanelly, is being opposed by other operators on the route, also by the Great Western Railway Co., whilst Mr. .Toseph Mason, of Birmingham, is faced with opposition by only the railway company in connection with the backing of his BlackheathAberystwyth express service.

Western.

AT Bristol at the end of next week local operators will be opposed by the Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co., Ltd., Red and White Services, Ltd., and others in connection mainly with stage services within the area. Express services of Highways, Ltd., and Red and White Services, Ltd., will be opposed by the G.W.R. Co.

On Friday strong opposition to backing applications for express services between the Midlands and Western-area coastal resorts will be made by Greyhound Motors, Ltd., whilst the G.W.R. Co. will appear in objection to a number of excursion backings from Midland towns.

Southern.

THE first sitting for 1932 will com mence on February 8th, and sittings will be held thereafter on every alternate Monday, the first four sittings taking place at Reading. During these sittings it is hoped to deal with seasonal express services and excursions and tours, with the object of issuing licences in time for Easter.

The following three meetings will be held at some central place, possibly Winchester, for the bearing of expressservice applications. Commencing about May 9th, stage services will be considered at various places, conveniently selected according to the routes affected, the aim of the Commissioners being to inconvenience operators as little as possible. Delay is caused in the Commissioners' work, reflecting itself in inconvenience to operators, when application and statistical forms are incorrectly filled in, and a special appeal is made by Sir Reginald Ford for attention to this point.

South-eastern.

—NEXT Thursday, at Tunbridge Wells, a batch of stage-service applications by the Maidstone and District concern will be dealt with, there being no opposition. Excursions to coastal resorts, also a London-Bournemouth express service, applied for by Bournemouth Tours, . Ltd., will be opposed by the Southern Railway Co.
