THE ROAD Haulage Association (RHA) has signed a partnership agreement with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to promote the industry and furnish jobseekers E, with the information they need to pursue a role in logistics.
RHA acting chief executive Nick Payne described it as an awareness campaign: "It's a really good step for the industry."
Payne expected to see a mix of new blood and industry returners joining the logistics sector following the agreement.
"This agreement means the DWP and RHA will be better placed to meet the needs of road freight operators working in the hire and reward haulage sector. It will give those who wish to pursue a career in the industry a recognised route into this industry," he added.
The agreement is reciprocal, with RHA promoting Jobcentre Plus as an avenue to recruit staff to its members.
Payne said the initiative has resulted in enquiries from jobseekers, and he expected RHA members to make the most of the relationship next year as they address issues created by the impending Driver CPC deadline and the sector's older-than-average workforce.
