Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ENSURING THAT cyclists are aware of their legal responsibilities as road users, and that they don't venture into vehicle blind spots, are the key to cycle safety, according to the respondents to December's Trucking Britain survey.

So far, more than 170 operators have taken part in the survey.

The two most popular methods for reducing risks to cyclists are: proper enforcement (including fines) of cyclists ignoring the rules of the road (87%); and more training for cyclists on large-vehicle blind spots (86%).

Physical segregation of cyclists from other road users was suggested by 60%.

About half of the respondents (51%) voted for the lifting of bans on trucks, allowing them to deliver outside of the rush-hour period.

More training for drivers garnered votes from just 48%, while the mandatory or voluntary fitment of safety equipment to vehicles proved distinctly unpopular, with just 22% and 24% of the votes.

The majority of respondents (83%) felt that national and local media are biased against trucks in their reporting of accidents.

Only 28% felt that the government is right to promote cycling without appropriate safeguards. • There's still time to take part in the poll. Log on to commercialmotor.com/ truckingbritain
