Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SOUTH EAST traffic commissioner Nick Denton suspended the 0-licence of B&T Scaffolding for a week after one of its directors was stopped driving an LGV without a driving licence.

At a hearing in Eastbourne in November, the TC told Thomas Wood, a director at the Chigwellbased firm, that his actions had been "breathtakingly irresponsible". At the PI, the TC was told that the offence was discovered by an officer from the Metropolitan

Police, who stopped Wood's vehicle on 12 July.

Wood later wrote to the office of the TC to apologise on behalf of the company and explained that it was now using an external company to regularly check driver licence records.

However, TC Denton said: "For a driver to drive an HGV without the HGV entitlement is a serious offence. "For that driver to not have any form of driving entitlement, and for that driver to be a director of the company

compounds the offence.

"How will that company's other drivers take their legal obligations seriously if they see the director flouting them?"

The TC suspended the firm's 0-licence for a week from 2 December and ordered Wood and another director to attend an 0-licence management course by 31 December.

Summing up

TC Denton said that Wood's actions had put public safety in danger.
