Gloucestershire livestock haulier Gliders Transport has to wait to see whether or not it has been held to be in breach of environmental conditions placed on its licence in 1999.

The Cheltenham-based company had been called before he Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Alan Bourlet at a Iheltenham disciplinary inquiry following complaints about be company's operations from neighbouring residents. he company holds an international licence for 33 vehicles 'rid 30 trailers.

In 1999 TC Christopher Heaps imposed conditions on the Icence designed to minimise disturbance to neighbouring vsidents. One of these conditions included no authorised Fehickes to be parked, loaded or unloaded within 44 metres if the public road.

Peter Watkinson. who lives adjacent to the site, claimed hat the conditions had been breached on a number of accailons. He said that vehicles had been parked within the 44m and arid on the road itself. Vehicles had also reversed out of the premises. In addition, a vehicle had been parked on the road unattended with the engine running and a foreign registered vehicle belonging to Gliders was parked on the road obstructing their driveway for 10 minutes.

Denying that the con

ditions had been ireached, Bernard Bloxsome, for Gilders, said that the only 'negation referred to in the call-up letter was a vehicle being marked on the highway in August. That arose when a vehicle ;topped on the opposite side of the road for a short time with Is hazard lights on. He denied conditions prevented parking in the adjacent public highway.

Managing director Grantham Gilder said vehicles had to bel in the 44m exclusion zone. A second vehicle could not inter the zone to queue and had to wait outside the zone. He naimed this was not "parking". The only vehicles on the icence were British registered. He also said visiting vehicles :o a nearby farm-machinery firm would enter the yard on icrasions and then reverse out. ''l have no wish to antagonise inyone or cause anyone any problems and we have not done xi in my opinion," Gilder added.

The DTC said he would announce his decision in writing at a irture date, but pointed out that the parties had to co-exist.
