• Hauliers and their drivers were warned this week to watch for cash on delivery requirements specified on international consignments: "It is amazing how often the driver either doesn't know he has to collect the COD bank draft, or simply forgets, says Through Transport Mutual, an insurance firm for large freight forwarders.
Hauliers are normally liable for the value of the goods carried under CMR, which can land them in trouble if the company which receives the goods is unable or unwilling to pay up.
