THE EXPERIMENTAL Leyland National battery bus went into passenger operation on the Runcorn Busway this week. It had previously been used for driver training while waiting for a DoE licence to carry passengers. This special licence was granted (CM November 28) for a period of one year to allow the 13.6m bus to operate.

Glasgow bus jobs cut

PLANS for "substantial operational savings" expected to be implemented in May next year could mean the loss of up to 150 busmen's jobs in the Glasgow area. Greater Glasgow PTE has already carried out talks with trade unions about cuts in services in response to recent Government appeals to effect savings.

A PTE official emphasised, however, that there would be no redundancies and the situation would be met by natural wastage.

More coaches this Christmas

NEARLY 200 extra coach services will be operated over Christmas and New Year by National Travel, in the South West of England and Wales.

On Boxing Day 51 services, with 123 departures, will run in the United Kingdom. But in the South West of England and Southern Wales coach services will be suspended On both Christmas Day and Boxing Day for the second successive year

LT experts for S. America

LONDON TRANSPORT has been retained by Venezuela Government to help set up a metropolitan transportation authority in Caracas. LT experts will advise on all aspects of the new organisation for up to five years.

Sheffield 'Early Bird'

A NEW bus service to link the central bus and rail stations with the main Sheffield business and commercial areas has just been started. It will operate from Monday to Friday between 0745 and 0900 at a fare of 2p.
