Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YORKSHIRE HAULIER Brian Yeardley Continental has returned to profit during "difficult and interesting times" following its £104000 pre-tax loss in 2008.

For the year ended 31 December 2009. the Pontefract business made a profit of £101,000 on turnover of £6.7m.

However, sales were down more than 25m during the period as the company pursued rationalisation and cost-reduction measures.

It says its 2010 management accounts show a continuing improvement in underlying profitability, and investment in new vehicles, trailers and equipment will maintain customer service levels.

The company resolved a dispute out of court with Pail-Ex (CM24 June), with the pallet network making no admission of liability, but making a contribution towards Brian Yeardleys costs.

The firm's MD Kevin Hopper says: 'The company has gone through some difficult and interesting times over the past four or five years, but due to cost savings and investment in the right people, we are confident that we will be an even bigger player than we currently are in the self-driver mega-trailer business to and from Europe."
