its Salzgitter factory — home to the current generation of ERFs — in a bid to boost production by 40% by the summer of 2006.
The move comes on the back of increased demand for heavy trucks in Europe which has seen sales of the flagship TGA soar by 26% over 2003 figures.
The Salzgitter plant produces 12,800 trucks per year MAN aims to take this to 18.000 per year by the middle of 2006.
At present it takes Salzgitter an average of 53.6 man-hours to build a truck with 97% of vehicles delivered on time.
As well as building vehicles the Salzgitter factory is home to a range of component machining operations, including the production of crankshafts for its Nuremburg-built engines.
