Mr Toyne is head of the vehicle inspection division of the DTp. The book can be obtained through principal bookshops (Ref. ISBN O 9500679 4 6) or direct from the publishers by post.
AS in previous editions, the book is in question-and-answer format. But it now includes details about the new car testing regulations — the Motor Vehicles (Tests) Regulations 1976 — which came into operation on January 1, 1977, and which cover, as well as small vans, large passenger carrying vehicles and motor caravans.
For the non-technical transport manager or supervisor responsible for the successful negotiation of his company's vehicles through the statutory annual vehicle testing procedures, this book must be invaluable. It also aims to provide useful information for those who must seek the qualification of professional competence relevant to the EEC Directive on Access to the Profession, due to come into operation in the UK next year.
