Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Without wishing, in any way, to belie the hgv driver training carried out within the food, drink and tobacco industry, or to enter into a general discussion about such training, I feel I must point out a serious error of facts in Miss Pratt's letter (CM July 29) which creates a totally wrong perspective.

She says the 40,850 hgv drivers employed in the food, drink and tobacco industry is "not far short of the 41,730 within the scope of the Road Transport Industry Training Board". In fact, the comparable figure is 13,980 nearly 31/2 times that of food, drink and tobacco.

It is also somewhat misleading to guote.figures for 1973. For example, since then, the number of hgv driver training places within the road transport industry has increased by over 300 or 31 per cent, whereas, in the remainder of British industry, the figure appears actually to have fallen in that period.
