[WHEN bus fares throughout the VV country are being raised to meet extra costs, a north Oxfordshire concern plans to lower some charges. Messrs. Worths Services, Enstone, who have applied to the East Midland Traffic Commissioners for revisions, want to abolish return fares on their Enstone-StonesfieldOxford service, which will mean reductions of up to 4d. on some single fares.
The concern will also seek permission to abolish workmen's return tickets because conditions governing their issue have been abused. Mr. T. E. Worth, a representative of the concern, said last week that although many single fares would be reduced he hoped to be better off because of the certainty that every passenger had bought a ticket.
Fare increases granted to Walsall Transport Department by the West Midland Traffic Commissioners, last week, are expected to produce an additional £99,112 a year. The present 21d. and 3d. charges will be unchanged but bus fares of 34d. and more will be raised to the next penny. Trolleybus fares between 33d.-8d. will be increased by Id. and the 9d, fare by 1 d.
An extra £37,450 a year will be yielded by fare increases granted last week to Chesterfield Transport Department. Fares will be raised by amounts ranging from ill. to 2d.
Although the minimum fare of 2d. will be retained, Bolton Transport Department have been authorized to raise their 3-Id. and 43d. fares by 3d. and all other fares by Id.
The South Wales Traffic Commissioners have granted the South Wales Transport Co., Ltd., permission to raise fares. As reported in the July 29 issue, their decision had been reserved pending the clarification of certain points.
Ipswich Corporation have approved proposals for revised charges by the municipal undertaking to meet an estimated deficit of £31,400 for the current year's working. Increases of Id., 10. and-2d. are proposed, but 177 tickets would be unchanged. Some children's fares and weekly tickets might also be raised.
