'THE submission, by Mr. A. Wrottesley, 1 for the British Transport Commission, objectors to a case at Bristol on Monday, that the refusal of a customer to use facilities of British Road Services was not sufficient ground to justify a grant, Was quashed by Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority.
Granting an extra vehicle of 31 tons on A licence to Mr. P. G. Fumell, Upton, Dorset, the Authority said: "I cannot force customers to use B.R.S."
Supporting the application, Mr. L. Graham, representing Martin Sellett (1938), Ltd., Poole, an associate of the Marley Tile Co., Ltd., said that he had instructions from head office not to use B.R.S. He did not know the reason for this, although he admitted that facilities had been offered by B.R.S.
Representing B.R.S., Mr. I. Samuel said that many. vehicles came into the area carrying bricks. They would be suitable to take bricks for Martin Sellett on the return journeys, he claimed.
The grant classified a normal user of "mainly goods for Martin Sellett (1938), Ltd., 200 miles."
