Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT was announced on Wednesday that list 12, containing 1,540 vehicles, would be published next Wednesday. Nearly half the vehicles offered-719— will comprise 30 units with premises (closing date for tenders October 5), and the remainder will be 472 vehicle-only units, including 12 heavy-haulage lots and 406 lorries (227 units) not previously offered. The closing date for tenders for the vehicle-only units is September 21.

NORTHERN AREA

One-vehiclepUrchases have been made by Mr. D. Parkins, 45 Front Street, Prudhoe-on-Tyne (2 tons 19 cwt.), and Mr. D. Walker, 11 Lynton Gardens, Darlington (4 tons 19 cwt.).

Dent's Transport (Spennymoor), Ltd., The Buildings, Tudhoc Colliery, near Spennymoor, have added another lorry (4 tons 12 cwt.) to their fleet of ex-B.R.S. vehicles. It was transferred to them by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham.

Vehicles have also been transferred to Mr. F. Gibson, 223 St. Vincent's Street, South Shields • (one-2 tons 18 cwt,) by Mr. E. Waters, 13 Woodleigh Road, Monkseaton; Mr. T. A. Metcalfe, 80 Cannel Road South, Darlington (one14 tons 19 cwt) by Mr. D. Walker, 11 Lynton Gardens, Darlington; and J. R. Hat (Transport), Ltd., 48 Grange Road, Darlington (two-16 tons 13 cwt.) by Mr. J. R. Hett, of the same address.

NORTH-WEST

Hacketts Haulage, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane; Salford, 5, have transferred three more vehicles. One (71 tons) has gone to E. S. Jones and Co., 28 Larkfield Road, Aigburth, Liverpool; one (71 tons) to .1. Lynch and Sons (Transport), Ltd., 27 Leicester Street, Northwich; and one (7 tons) • to Mr. R. II. Mawdsley, 820 Liverpool Road, Ainsdale. J. W. Fieldsend, Ltd., who share the same base as Hacketts Haulage' have assigned a lorry (72 tons) to Mr. J. J. Potts, 30 Withers Avenue, Orford, Warrington, who has also taken over a lorry (71 tons) from Woodcocks Transport (Chorley), Ltd., Park Road Garage, Heskin, near Chorley.

The North Western Licensing Authority has also authorized the following assignments: a lorry (51 tons) to J. Darlington and Son (Transport), Ltd., 104 Church Lane, Manchester, 9, by Mr. S. Ivlaskey, 258 Wilbraham Road, Manchester, 6; five MI tons) to D. Hall and Sons. Ltd., 577 Waishaw Road, Bury, by Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough; one (51 tons) to Messrs. Harrison Bros., Elm Grove, Knowsley Road, St. Helens, by Mr. W. Morris, 60 Queen Street, Wigan; one (31. tons) to Mr. F. Higgins. Barrows Green Garage, Derby Road, Widnes, by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham; one (31 tons) to Messrs. S. Lawrence and Sons, The Grange, Station Road, Hope Village, near Wrexham, by Mr. IL Johnson, 6 Warren Drive, Newtonle-Willows; and an articulated outfit (7 tons) to Mr. L. Gleave. A lorry based at Bradford has been transferred to Messrs. M. Ross and Sons, Eastlfield, Forgandenny. Perthshire, by Alexander Scott (Contractors), Ltd., Paisley. The vehicles which Were reported last week to have been• bought by Mr. Charles Holdsworth were tendered for by two coach companies in which Mr. Holdswofth has an interest. Six lorries and three trailers went to Walton and Helliwell, Ltd., Mytholrnrayd, and three lorries to 0. and C. Haldsworth, Ltd., Halifax

EASTERN COUNTIES Four vehicles, including two articulated outfits, based in East London, have gone to the Peterborough Engineering Co., Newark, Peterborough. It is understood that they will be assigned. Another two articulated vehicles (4 tons), based at Newington Butts (unit 7102), have been purchased by Mickleover Transport, Ltd., North Elrnharri, Norfolk.

Mr, T. Hayward, 64 New Road, Peterborough. has bought three vehicles, one of them an articulated outfit, and has transferred them to Mr. V. J. Grange, Peterborough. Two other vehicles have been assigned by Mr. Grange to Hacketts Haulage, Ltd., Salford, Lancs, 0. G. Barnard and Sons. Ltd., Stowmarket, whose purchase of three units based at Norwich and one at Beccles was reported last week, have now transferred four of the lorries concerned. Three have gone to J. Wyatt, Junr. and Co., Diss, Norfolk, and one to Messrs. Sage Transport, Ipswich.

SOUTHERN AREA F. C. Targett and Son, Ltd., 163 Horsley Road, Chandlers Ford, have been granted a special A licence for an articulated vehicle (tractor 42 tons, trailer 22 tons).

• LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES

Messrs. Conning Bros., Sandway, Lenham, near Maidstone, have again been successful with a tender for a transport unit. Offered in list 10, the unit (6845), based at Hcadcorn, comprised a lorry weighing 3 tons unladen.
