QUILT for use in Welsh quarries by Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers, Ltd., two tipping bodies for I 5-ton payloads have been wholly fabricated in light alloy by Redhill Bodybuilding Industries, Ltd., Hooley Lane, Redhill, Surrey. Mounted on A.E.C. Mammoth Mark III chassis, the bodies measure 17 ft. by 7 ft. by 2 ft. 9 in. internally and are loaded with liniestone rock from overhead by mechanical shovels.

The British Aluminium Co., Ltd., Norfolk House, St. James's Square, London, S.W.!, who supplied the material for the bodies and cabs, say that the all-metal bodywork ably withstands the hem y impacts.

Five sub-frame consists of 9-in. by 17-in. channel-section Rangitudinal members. on to which arc gusseted crosshearers of 4-in. by 2-in, channel section. Side stiffeners are of 3-in, by 11-in: channel section, and the side and head board sheeting is I in. thick. The tailboard sheet is in. thick, and the j-in. thick flooring has stiffening bars riveted to the top.

Special extrusions were used in the construction of the cab, which has sides of 16 s.w.g. sheeting and a roof of 18 s.w.g. The cab weighs 21 cwt. complete. The rivets used are of 5 per cent. mg, aluminium alloy, and the bolts are cadmium-plated high-tensile steel. Edbro-B. and F. doubleram tipping gear is fitted.

Weighing approximately 11tons, the body is said to be only half as heavy as one of steel, thus allowing a payload heavier than a steel body would accommodate. Redid(' In ries constructed this 15-ton tipping body livnt Ilght alloys. It is mounted on an A.E.. Mammoth Mark 111 chassis.
