THE -first goods vehicle to be made in Holland was recently completed in the D.A.F. works, at Eindhoven. An interesting feature of the chassis is that it is fabricated by arc welding from steel sheet.
Under present conditions, certain, Components, including the Hercules engine,, are. imported frorn the United Sth-tes; but .ja.dne coarse itis hoped to make all COrnpOneritS, -With the exception of the engine; in HolIantE,
: Two types of vehicle are at present being produced, one a 5-tonner with six-cylindered 4.62-litre engine,: and the
other for 3-ton payloads and powered by a 4.02-litre unit. The wheelbase of the larger vehicle is 12 ft. 6 ins., arid of the smaller 11 ft. 3 ins.
For the present year, production of 500 vehicles has been planned, whilst during 1950, when the company's new factory will be in operation, it is hoped to step this figure up to 2,000.
Most of the vehicles are for home consumption, but it is contemplated that exports will eventually be made to Indonesia, Belgium, Scandinavia and South America, among other countries.
