NEW relaxations in the use of special vehicles on the road are contained in the Motor Vehicles (Authorization of Special Types) (Amendment) Order. 1949, which came into operation on August 2.
It extends the scope of the Motor Vehicles (Authorization of Special Types) General Order, 1941, to cover grass-cutting machines and hedge trimmers, raises the permitted unladen weight to 8 cwt., and allows the maximum overall width of 7 ft. 6 ins., which was previously allowed, to be exceeded when the machine is actually engaged in cutting grass or trimming hedges.
