MR. HORACE SHANKLAND, director of national sales of the Dunlop Rubber Co.. Ltd., is slowly recovering from his recent illness, but is not expected to return to duty for -sorne time.

MR. HUGH M. MACRAE, manager cf A.A. Motor Services, Ltd., Ayr, has resigned to become traffic supervisor of the Western S.M.T. Co.' Ltd., Kilmarnock. MR. WILLIAM MORRIS, Prestwick, succeeds Mr. Macrae.

• MR. H C. R. Mungris is retaining his directorship of Morris Motors, Ltd., but is resigning, •at the end of the month, from his position as director of the machining division of the Nuffield Organisation. He is doing so in order to be free to visit overseas countries where assembly of Nuffield vehicles is either being undertaken or is contemplated. Mr. Mullens is now on a visit to India, and later this year expects to tour New Zealand and Australia. M. L. J. TOLLEY, general rir6naget, of Nuffield Metal Products, Ltd., is sailing with him.

MR. P. G. SOMERVILLE has retired after 30 years' service as secretary of the National Benzole Association. From 1903 to 1919 he was staff officer of the Gas Light and Coke Co., attached to the personal staff of the late Sir Francis Goodenough, C.B.E. He was then seconded by the late Sir David MilneWatson, governor and managing director of the company, to the National Benzoic Association and was appointed secretary. From 1929 until 1939 he was secretary to the British delegation of the International Conference of 13enzole Producers.

MR. CHARLES FRITH has been re-elected chairman of the Sheffield Centre of the Institute of the Motor Industry, w.th . Ma, P. R. BAucii as deputy-chairman.

Mg. THOMAS M'MAIN, assistant traffic manager of W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., Falkirk, has been appointed traffic; manager. He was formerly connected with the, now defunct Scottish General Omnibus Co., and in 1921 joined Alexander's.

MR. J. L. WILLOUGHBY, 0.B.F., Minst.T., previously assistant secretary. has been appointed deputy secretary of the Road Haulage Executive. He has had railway experience in many parts of the world and was at one time port manager at Port Sudan.

MR. JOHN BARCI.AY has been appointed works manager of the new factory of the Consolidated Pneumatic Tool Co., Ltd., at Johannesburg, South Africa. Production will begin there before the end of the year. Mr. Barclay was in charge of production at the company's works at Frazerburgh, Scotland.

MR. J. J. GILLAN and MR, R. D. HUNT have been elected joint managing directors of the Dominion Rubber Co., Ltd., in succession to .Ma. Jowl K. Cou-rorr, who has resigned. As reported in "The Commercial Motor" of July 8, Mr. Coulant and MR. DOUGLAS H. GORDON have been appointed joint managing directors of the North British Rubber Co., Ltd.

MR. D. B. ROSSITER (Southern Rhodesia Civil Service) has gained first prize in the associate membership examination of the Institute of Transport.. The second prize was. taken by MR. J. H., SHIELDS (Tees Coniervancy Commission). the grad uateship examination, MR. R. BOWERS (Glasgow Corporation Transport) has won -first prize, and Ma. R. L. R. HILL (British Railways) the second prize.

MR. R. J, SAAtuut... B.Sc. (Eng.), has been appointed deputy chief engineer (civil engineering) of the Ministry of Transport in succession to Ma. E. B. HUGH-JONES, 1VI.C., B.Sc., M.1.C.E. Mr. Hugh-Jones recently became chief engineer in succession to MR. H. E. AmtNiitora, who retired. MR. A. E N. TAYLOR, B.Sc. (Eng.), A.M.I.C.F., is to take up a new post of deputy chief engineer (traffic and mechanical engineering). MR. H. S. KEEP, M.C., B.Sc. (Eng.), M.I.C.E., A.C.G.I., has been appointed an assistant chief engineer at headquarters. MR, C. E. HortrNuttunsr, A.M.I.CE., becomes divisional road engineer for the Metropolitan Division in place of MR. G. H. PARGREAVES. MC.. B.Sc., M.I.C.E., . who has been appointed an assistant chief engineer at headquarters.
