We have culled the following figures from data compiled by the Philadelphia Commercial Museum, with the object of drawing attention to the very effective manner in which the United States of America is pouring its manufactured and other products into European and other markets which at present caanot be effectively supplied by the many belligerent nations. Were America dsawn into the conflict, the need for her own military preparations would stop much el ads activity. The war is giving our cousins an unparalleled opportunity to seize the temporarily denuded markets of ourselves and the other combatants. Much of this business will inevitably be retained. American business men intend to leave no stone unturned to ensure this result. We in this country must be alive to the magnitude of the trade which is at present being done, in order "to gauge, so far as possible, the effect it will have on post-hellum conditions, as they will concern home manufacturers. Competition is going to be keen not only from the U.S.A. but between British makers who will almost all A52 have increased plant at their disposal.
Below we reproduce figures as to the relative value of the month's exports from America of a number
of munitions and other products during April, 1914, and April, 1915, respectively. They are worth examining carefully ; some of them are startling, all are informative.
