German trailer and bodybuilding giant Schmitz Cargobull recently revealed an impressive €1,308m (£934m) group turnover for its 2005/6 financial year. What's more new UK managing director Andreas Schmitz confidently predicts a 10% increase in year-on-year in group revenue; he plans to take turnover past the €2bn (£1,430m) mark by 2010.

Its combined build target for this year is 46,000 trailers, increasing to 85,000-plus by the end of the decade. This would give it a 45% share of the whole EU trailer market.

Schmitz acknowledges the UK market's importance to the group, even though it only contributes 6% of its overall turnover with new trailer registrations hovering around the 18,000 mark. He expects this to rise by no more than 1,000 units over the next tour years, but forecasts that the Harelaw plant will double its share of the UK's curtainsider market by 2010.

To help achieve this, Schmitz is introducing adjustable-height Varies models, one of which will be on display at this year's CV Show in Birmingham.

It has a Continental-compliant 4.0m-high roof with a plug-in control that allows the top to be raised to 4.5m or more for UK work, Alongside this will be an example with highsecurity curtains and a multi-temperature reefer trailer. The Durham factory is turning out 72 trailers a week— a mixture of curial nsiders, reefers and vans of which over 90% feature galvanized, bolted structures. This includes its S.K0 Cool reefers which formerly used a welded frame.

Schmitz offers a five-year structural warranty on the chassis and reefer box, as well as the usual 10-year anti-corrosion cover on galvanised chassis.
