The transport function for retailers is, however, the last major movement of product in the supply chain before their retail stores take over the responsibility for the final sale and is therefore affected by the actions of other distributive functions. The transport contractor tendering for the business must therefore be aware of and ask questions concerning the warehouse systems and methods which affect his service level and costs.
