• A new distribution system using full-length trailers is being operated by BRS Western for Hoover washing machines.
It is expected to reduce the number of journeys required for a given volume by 18%.
Each trailer carries 228 washing machines, stacked three high, and BRS Western say 30 or 40 will be required for the Hoover contract. The 13.4m Don Bur trailers are 4.7m high, with a pneumatically-operated live floor which can be moved 0.3m backwards or forwards for loading and unloading.
BRS is operating the trailers out of its Bridgend depot with up to 15 Scania 113 tractors.
