Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Registrations of trucks over 3.5 tonnes were down 21.5% in March compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and first quarter registrations fell by 25% to 14,281.

Iveco Ford has regained the market lead with a 33.2% share in March and 26.8% for the first three months: Leyland Daf, which led in January, holds 19.2% and 22% respectively.

Almost all manufacturers suffered a decline in registrations, but AWD bucked the trend with an increase from 84 trucks to 106 in March, and 261 to 322 for the first quarter to take 10th place behind Seddon Atkinson. Dennis also recorded good results from 20 to 41 and from 87 to 103 overall.

MAN pulled ahead of Scania in March to take seventh place with 192; but Scania recorded 636 for the quarter against MAN's 632.

Panel van registrations in the 1.8-3.5-tonne sector fell by 12.7% in March and by 13% for the first quarter. Ford held its lead, but its registrations for March fell by 25.9% against a 15.5% decline for the first quarter, reflecting the earlier industrial dispute. Leyland Daf's 200 and 400 Series retained second place, but while its first-quarter figures were down 10.8%.
