Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I was amazed to read in (CM, February 22) of wheels being lost from a Seddon Atkinson vehicle through the nuts winding off their studs. How could this happen with all the modern locking devices now available, even if there was paint left on the seatings?

What ever happened to the "Simmonds Nut"? I must admit that I am sadly out of touch with modern workshop experience but can recall fitting these nuts in my apprenticeship. Having to use the hand brace (no power nut runners in those days) I was convinced that they would never unwind through vibration.
