• Coventry Corporation and the Transport and General Workers Union may make a joint approach to the Ministry of Labour to seek approval for their pay agreement on the one-man operation of doubledeck buses.

Mr. Ray Gunter wrote to Coventry Corporation ruling that the one-man operators of single deck vehicles should receive lOs 1d a week less than the E21 14s 10d rate agreed for double-deck buses.

lie also called for early action to eliminate restrictions on standing passengers in off-peak periods and other "unjustified restrictions''.

This letter has brought an angry reaction from local union officials who criticize the Minister for introducing matters not covered in pay agreement he was asked to approve.

They decided to seek a meeting with the Ministry, saying that if the City Council would not join in a combined approach, the trade union side would go to London on its own. Ald. R. W. Brain. chairman of the Coventry Transport Committee, says, however, that he is willing to join the union officials in their approach to the Minister.
