The applications were heard in London )efore the Metropolitan Traffic Commisioner, Mr. D. I. R. Muir, and the Eastern 'raffic Commissioner, Mr. W. P. S. Ormond, itting jointly.

Eastern National's assistant traffic manger, Mr. John Wilson, said the company !ready ran two timed services between .ishop's Stortford and Stansted, and wanted ermission to run more untimed services.

Mr. R. M. Yorke, representing Channel arways, said they were opposing the Eastnt National application because they wantd to operate the coach service themselves.

The Channel Airways application was,., pposed by Eastern National; S. G. and R. ). Biss of Bishop's Stortford; Don's Coaches Hale Bros.) Ltd. of Bishop's Stortford; and 'remier Travel Ltd. of Cambridge.

After a 20-minute retirement, Mr. Muir aid that the Commissioners had decided to rant the application of Channel Airways Lnd refuse the Eastern National one. They lad decided to make the Channel Airways oach licence for one year "because the ircumstances surrounding the use of Stanted even during the next three years are kely to change", said Mr. Muir.

The Commissioners varied existing cences of Eastern National; Eastern Court ties Omnibus Co. Ltd.; Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd.; and Premier Travel Ltd. of Cambridge who operate the joint service between Southend and Birmingham, allowing them to take in Stansted.

They further approved a variation of the Eastern National Harlow/Bishop's Stortford/ Felixstowe service to take in Stansted.

Approval was also given to vary the Eastern National Harlow/Colchester/Clacton/ Walton-on-Naze service to include Stansted.

The following six applications, to which there was no objection, were approved: George Ewer and Co. Ltd. of London; Premier Travel Ltd. of Cambridge; Associated Motorways, of Cheltenham, and Travel House (Luton) Ltd.; to vary their joint service between Cheltenham and Harwich to take in Stansted; Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Ltd. and Premier Travel Ltd. to vary their joint service between Harwich and Bangor to take in Stansted.

Harold Smith, for Charles Rickards (Tours) Express Ltd., of Brentford, Middx, withdrew the company's two applications.

The Stansted Airport applications were due to have been heard in February, but when they were adjourned, short-term dispensation was then granted to Eastern National, Biss, and Don's Coaches for services to and from Bishop's Stortford station.

The hearing was continued this week, and is due to resume again on May 14 in Cambridge for the backings.
