• British Railways' application to run a peakhour stage carriage service between Liverpool Central Station and Garston Station, heard last week (CM, April 5), has been granted by the North Western Traffic Commissioners, subject to a slight route amendment.

The Minister of Transport had ruled that Central Station could not be closed until alternative bus services had been provided for passengers travelling-On the Gate cre/Liverpool railway line. Liverpool Corporation Transport Department had been unable to put on additional vehicles due to staff shortages, but BR will surrender the licence when the department is able to take over the passengers.
