Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

inatory Taxation

• THERE would be talk of physical 1 restriction of road vehicles in the coming months and of discriminatory taxation against road transport, possibly against C-licensed vehicles in particular. Many people would like to see discrimination against C-licensees in this country on the German pattern, and this underlined the importance of the work of the Traders Road Transport Association it international level.

These comments were made by Mr. H. R. Featherstone, national secretary of the T.R.T.A., at the annual general meeting of the West Midland division of the Association in Birmingham on Monday. after he had warned members that 1963 would be a momentous year for Clicensees following the publication of Dr. 13eeching's report on the railways.

Mr. Featherstone described the report as" outstandingly good"; C-licensees had been under pressure for many years because of the unfavourable financial position of the railways and any move that gave rail greater viability would help to relieve this pressure.

Moreover the report was welcomed because it encouraged the trader to use the most efficient form of transport and stated the ease for road transport (better than could have been done by the Association) with full acknowledgement of rail deficiencies.
