Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Northern Scotland.

ANOTHER quiet sitting will be that of the Northern Scotland Traffic Commissioners, at Kirkcaldy, on April 25th, when there will be a little opposition to applications for licences. W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., will be a prominent applicant for stage-carriage licences at a hearing in the future.

Southern Scotland.

WHEN the Southern Scotland Traffic Commissioners meet in Glasgow, on April 20th, they will consider applications from several well-known concerns, Including the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Glasgow General Omnibus and Motor Services, Ltd., and W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd. Messrs. T. Cook and Sons will apply for permission to Continue an existing express-carriage B40 service between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Northern.

THE names of United Automobile Services, Ltd., Caledonian Omnibus Co., Ltd., and H. M. S. Catherwood, Ltd., • appear in Gazette 32 of the Northern Traffic Commissioners, amongst those of applicants for licences or backings. The Catherwood application is in respect of a backing for a licence to provide a new group of excursions and tours from Glasgow and covering Southern Scotland and the English Lake District.

Yorkshire.

IN Gazette 51 of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, the objections or representations column of the section dealing with the sitting to be held on April 19th is well supported by prominent operators, including Leeds Corporation, Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee, Bradford Corporation, Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., and the railways.

North-Western.

THERE will be a fair amount of opposition to applications when the North-Western Traffic Commissioners meet at Manchester on April 12th, but the sitting arranged for April 18th and the following days should proceed without undue interruption. The Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., will be a prominent applicant. Large numbers of licences have been granted to Bolton Corporation, the Lancashire United Transport and Power Co., Ltd., Manchester Corporation and the North-Western Road Car Co., Ltd. West Midland.

IN Gazette 54 the Commissiordrs for this area remind operators that, in accordance with Sub-section (4) of Section 72 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and Regulation 48 of the Public Service Vehicles (Licences and Certificates) Provisional Regulations, 1931, they can deal with any request from a holder of a road service licence or backing for variation of the conditions attached to his licence or backing. The following information should accompany a gequest:—(1) Number of the application for licence or backing ; (2) condition(s) to be varied ; (3) details of variations desired ; (4) reasons for the application.

Excursions and tours and express services will be the chief matters for consideration when the Commissioners meet at Hanley on April 19th, East Midland.

THE sitting of the East Midland Com missioners, which has been arranged to be held at Lincoln on April 19th, will be devoted principally to the consideration of applications for stage-carriage licences. There will not be a great deal of opposition, but the London and North Eastern Railway Co. is numbered amongst the concerns which will lodge objections. Eastern.

TFIERE will be a fair arnennt of

opposition from the railway commies and several well-known operators when the Eastern Traffic Commissioners hear licence applications at Cambridge from April 19th-22nd. Amongst the lists of applicants we notice the names of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., Premier Coaches and Garage, Ltd., the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., Green Line Coaches, Ltd., and C. Rickards, Ltd.

Southern. , THE Southern Traffic Commissioners will have a busy time when they meet at Winchester from April 18th-20th, for many applications will have to be considered, but a complete absence of opposition (as evidenced by Gazette 53) will, no doubt, facilitate the proceedings.

Excursions and tours and express services will chiefly be considered, and many long-distance operators, such as Main Lines, Ltd., Western National Omnibus Co., Ltd., Southern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., Great Western Express Co., Ltd., Highways, Ltd., and Red and White Services, Ltd., will be represented. South-Eastern.

NUMEROUS licences for tours and excursions have been granted by the South-Easteril Traffic Commissioners, notably to London and South Coast Motor Services (1915), Ltd., of CenciMany express-service applications are to be considered by the Commissioners when they meet at Lewes on April 12th. The concerns seeking licences include Thomas Tilling, Ltd., Green Line Coaches, Ltd., and United Service Transport Co., Ltd. The Workers Travel Association, Ltd., will be found amongst the applications for licences on some future occasion.

Metropolitan.

FOUR applications by Bourne and Balmer (Croydon), Ltd., for expresscarriage services from Croydon to Worthing, Eastbourne, Hastings and Bognor will be the only subjects of opposition at the Commissioners' sitting in London on April 20th. The unopposed applications include those of London General Country Services, Ltd., and Autocar Services, Ltd., for excursions and tours.

Licences have been granted to Blue Belle Motors, Ltd., and Green Line Coaches, Ltd., the latter concern receiving a particularly large number.
