Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Ford Shielded Magneto Contact.

Rejax, Ltd., has recently placed on the market another original fitting for the Ford, this being a shielded magneto contact for the special ignition device which obtains on that vehicle. It is common knowledge that occasional shirting with the Ford magneto is caused by pieces of transmission bands and other foreign matter collecting around the spring of the plunger contact which is disposed within the transmission case. "

The Rejax shielded contact has been devised with the object of eliminating this diffictilty. It corn pletely encases the plunger and spring, rendering it practically impossible for foreign matter to intervene as stated above. Each terminal costs 4s. 6d.

Porcelain Insulators for Sparking Plugs..

Trouble with sparking plugs occurs either by reason of a cracked porcelain insulator, or as a result of carbonization within the chamber behind the plug points.

i The result in either case s shortcircuiting and failure of the ignition; the remedy in the former event is the replacement of the porcelain, in the latter a thorough cleaning.

Both of these remedies can be most thoroughly adopted in the case of those sparking plugs which can be taken apart and reassembled. A case n point is the Champion X plug. The only difficulty found with regard to this component, which is a popular one in connection with Ford vehicles is a temporary one, due to shortage of porcelains, which are, of course, generally obtainable from the manufacturers in the States. Importation for commercial distribution of those parts is at the moment impossible.

It, will be good news, therefore, to many of our readers, particularly that large number who employ the Fora van, that Rejax, Ltd.. of 37 and 38, Broad Street, Ltd., Square, London, W., has a limited number of porcelains suitable for replacing those of Champion • X plugs for disposal. These, with electrodes, cost only Is. each. . We understand that they are not made by the Champion Co., but by a, concern of repute with wide experience in the manufacture of this class of article. By the use of this fitting,

quite a number of scrapped plugs, of the make named, can he repaired and put once more into service.

A New Splashguard.

The Splash-Preventer mudguards, as illustrated on this page, are made in two forms, one for

pneumatic-tired vehicles., the other for those having solid tires. They take the form of ring-shaped brushes with the bristles projecting outwards from the centre. When made for pneumatic tires, the ring is in one piece, not adjustable and the external diameter over the tips of the bristles is just a little less than the outside diameter, of the tire. That model used for solidtired wheels is made with four sections • when the tire is new, the guard fully extended ; a considerable space exists between each piece of the stock of the brush, the bristles being continuous. As the tire wears these portions of the stock are carried closer together, thus reducing the overall diameter

• of the guard. They are so made that they can be almost instantaneously pushed on to or removed from the vehicle wheels, the method of attachment being by spring clips on the back. of the guards. These spring clips grip the spokes and hold the guard in its correct position. They are selfcentring, and the bristles in the normal position are just clear of the road.

The prices are from RI 15s. 6d. per guard, and the sole licensee is Hardy and Padmore, Ltd., Engineers, Worcester.

A Ford Owner's Set of Box Spanners.

Those who have had occasion to use spanners from time to time will agree that, wherever it can be used, the box spanner is, as a rule, the most convenient type ; being well made : it fits on all six faces, it is impossible for it to slip, and it does not tend to take off the corners of the nut. There is no risk of damage to the user's knuckles, as the spanner is generally so long that the tommy bar or other implement used for operating it is carried well away from any projecting piece of mechanism. • .An objection raised is that these spanners are not, as a rule, so convenient in size ; they occupy more space in the toolbox than a wellmade adjustable wrench. The Etc set, however, designed for use on the Ford chassis, necessitates only three spanners, fitting six sizes in all. These are all the sizes of nut to be found on a Ford.

• The price is 2s. 6d. per set, and the factor is that well-known accessory concern, Brown Bros., Ltd., Great Eastern Street, E.C.
