The Manheim auction sees ex-finance units bought in minutes.

Operators mingled with trade at the HGV and Trailer sale at Manheim Auction in Leeds last week, and there were some gems among the fleet tractors, rigids and municipal vehicles on sale.

Some of the really well-priced units were being sold by finance houses, looking to recoup money from `snatchbacks' with a direct sale; however, many of these sales were still provisional at the end of the day.

Confirmed sales included a 12-month old 51-plate Mercedes-Benz Atego 815 boxvan with just 29,000km on the clock — snapped up for £13,400 (ex-VAT) by a private customer. Sent in by DaimierChrysler, the body was adorned with roses, and the day cab boasted three seats, a 'gentleman's magazine' and a stick of rock.

A range of four-year old ex-Hays Volvo FMI2 380 6x2 fleet tractors with sleeper cabs sold for between £11-12,000 (ex-VAT), while a V-plate (1999) 4x2 Mercedes-Benz Actros 480 with 460,000km-plus went for 116,400 (including VAT).

In an earlier sale in mid-August, another rigid caused a stir among buyers: the 12-month old MercedesBenz Atego long wheelbase 6x4 roll on/off rigid, on a 02 plate and 36,563km fetched £36,250 (ex-VAT).

Although Mercedes-Benz was not the only top-ender at the aucti on ,it certainly supplied the interest. There was a choice of 200151-plate Actros 2543 6x2 tractors with bidding price ranging from £24,750 to £30,000.

Adding spice to the mix were four high-mileage Daf XF95 480 6x2 tractors — provisional bids were placed, and there was also keen bidding for the last of batch of vehicles entering the used market from a finance house.

The first one sold at 126,750 with the following three jumping to £28,000.
