A MAN WHO continued to drive after a licence held in partnership with family members was revoked has failed in his bid for his own licence.
Risca, Gwent-based Warren Baker had applied for a licence for two vehicles and four trailers before the Welsh Traffic Commissioner David Dixon.
Baker worked as transport manager for his brother Glyn and his father. He admitted that he had carried on driving for his brother following the licence revocation last October, and for another operator Harold Jones, on 75 occasions between November and February. He conceded that two vehicles displaying Jones' licence discs were in fact operated by his brother.
He said that he had been paid in cash by his brother. He had needed the work and had driven the vehicles However,now he wanted to run his own trucks and he promised that if he was granted a licence there would be no dealings with his brother. "I want to do it on my own, this is for me and not a front for my brother," Baker said.
Holding that Baker had failed to regain his repute, and refusing to grant a licence, the TC said that he did not believe that he had been working for Harold Jones. Baker had known that his brother was operating vehicles illegally and had failed to take the obvious steps to distance himself.
