• A haulier who let his Operator's Licence expire because of ill health, has been granted a new licence for two years only, and had his number of vehicles cut from 10 to eight.
Walter Jones of Blue Bell Haulage in Liverpool applied for a licence for 10 trucks before North Western Deputy Licensing Authority John Levin at a Manchester public inquiry.

His previous licence had run out in December 1989.
A Department of Transport vehicle examiner said a maintenance check had revealed that the vehicles were in a poor condition.
Three out of §even trucks were issued with immediate prohibitions and three with delayed prohibitions.
The DLA heard that Jones, who had been in business 30 years, had been ill and his fitter was also in poor health.
