• A year after MAN's takeover of Austrian truckbuilder Steyr, and the subsequent closure of Steyr Trucks UK, MAN has chosen 11 specific dealers across the UK to hold parts stock for Steyr operators.
The Steyr franchise holders were given a year's notice by MAN-VW at the time of the takeover. Previously MAN's 34 dealers all handled Steyrbackup and warranty work (they will continue to do so), which has been criticised by Clarke Commercials of Leeds which bought the 120 remaining Steyr vehicles left in the UK. MAN-VW divisional director Robin Woolcock, however, maintains that when MAN-VW takes over all Steyr parts support in the UK on 1 November things "will be even better". Woolcock insists that MAN-VW's planned high level of support for Steyr users will be driven by two key objectives: ''Firstly, we want to sell any Steyr parts we can, and secondly we want Steyr operators to buy MANs from us when they come to replace their trucks.
There's absolutely no reason why we would want to reduce the level of service."
