Between 1975 and 1978, financial support for services dropped by 30 per cent and with further cuts and phasing-out of new bus grant, present policies — without inflation — will result in a massive 45 per cent real cut in spending on bus services by 1984 and this, Mr Irwin continued, at a time when the industry had never needed it more.
