OPERATORS may again face hold-ups on Britain's roads due to the following road works: Northern England: M1/M18. There are still restrictions in force on these motorways and their link roads at Thurcroft interchange, South Yorkshire (junctions 31-33).

Midlands: M6 southbound carriageway near Keele service area is still closed and will be for several weeks. Advance warning is also being given of diversions for southbound lorries during peak Motor Show times. Between Sam and 4pm on October 17 and 20-24, lorries must use the centre lane between junctions 5 and 4. Still on the M6, there are various lane closures on both carriageways north and south of junction 1, the Rugby exit.

Wales and the West: A449: A half-mile stretch of the northbound carriageway 4.5 miles north of the M4 junction near Newport will be closed for about the next five weeks. Traffic will now use the southbound carriageway.

M50 has two-way traffic flow on the eastbound carriageway at Kempley due to bridge collapse.

Penzance: Rebuilding of the Ross swing bridge will last for another five months, and operators are advised to use the Market Jew Street route as an alternative.

South-east England: Al. Re. construction of the Rowley Lan€ flyover on the Barnet by-pas: will mean occasional closures a one or both carriageways be tween now and March. Most wil be at weekends.

Mt Extensive repairs con tinue between junction 4 (Edg ware) and 5 (Watford), with two way traffic on one carriageway M11. Only one lane is oper southbound for half a mile fron Hallingbury south of junction 8 Bishop's Stortford.
