The bodies are con&wed from aluminium panels with pressed steel and hardwood frames. Insulation is provided by 10cm Polyurethene sheet to ;ive operating temperatures of between 2°C and 3.3°C (36°F and 38°F). Distances between the processing plants and unmanned depots aresuch that in-transit refrigeration is not required and the units are connected to amains supply on arrival.

Single doors will be fitted to each side of the body units and there will be no front or rear access. These are designed for the loading positions at the processing plants which demand that bodies are positioned sideon to the loading areas. On occasions, two bodies are placed side-by-side with doors open so that they can be loaded simultaneously even with the limited access: The North of Scotland Milk Marketing Board has been using demountables for almost three years. It replaced an articulated transport system and was se.)ected to cut operating and equipment purchasing costs.
