lorry route proposals

A PROPOSAL to close a road in Larbert to lorries was described last week by the Freight Transport Association as "ludicrous" and as a "frightening example of all that is bad in lorry control schemes".

Stirling County Council roads committee is to consider objections to its proposal to close to heavy lorries Tryst Road, Larbert. at present one of the main arteries from Stenhousemuir and North Falkirk to A876 and eventually to M80 to Stirling and Glasgow.

The Association says it is aware that Tryst Road, which runs through a middle-class housing area and between Falkirk Tryst Golf Club and Stenhousemuir's cricket ground, is not an ideal lorry route, but claims it is more reasonable for it to carry its share of traffic rather than to divert the traffic to less suitable routes.

Tryst Road is the shortest and least objectionable route between Bellsdyke Road (A876) and Stenhousemuir and North Falkirk, they.add. In particular, says the AssociatiOn, the proposed alternative route by Waterslap Road would result in lorries passing more houses, more . school ' crossings patrols, more dangerous junctions, bad bends and awkward cambers, and the route would be four miles longer. There would also be worse sight lines on joining the main road.
